Unani System of Medicine & Surgery is one of the oldest medication systems in the world. Unani System originated in Greece and from there the system of medication was adopted by Middle-East and South-Asian countries.
B.U.M.S is a five-year undergraduate degree program that deals with the medical knowledge and applications of the Unani system and surgery. Unani system of medicine is different from regular medications (allopathy). In this, the healing process is done through the natural processes/ natural power of the body. As per the Unani System, the body has the power to heal itself. All that the human needs to do is identify the healing power within themselves and enhance it. It is known for treating various deadly diseases and disorders in a natural way as every man in the modern age is inflicted with the stress and anxieties which is a root cause of various diseases.
The system of medicine has been in practice since 6,000 years and is mainly based on the four components that are: earth, fire, water, and air. It is known for the treatment of weight loss, kidney stone, diabetes, psoriasis, arthritis and others.
The minimum eligibility criteria required for the programme are mentioned below.
AYUSH courses across India are among highly sought after medical courses and as per government regulations, all candidates aspiring to pursue the course must appear for an entrance test. All admission, whether in private or government medical colleges in India, will be made on the basis of scores obtained either in national-level, state-level or university-level entrance tests, that are approved by the Ministry of AYUSH.
Check out the BUMS admission processes in India and the steps that you will be required to complete to successfully pursue a UG medical course in Unani in the country.
As mentioned, all candidates are required to attempt an entrance test, either at National (NEET-UG), State Level (OJEE, TS EAMCET, etc), or University Level (BVP CET).
After attempting an entrance test, depending on the admission and selection policy of the entrance test-conducting body / State / University, all candidates will be asked to participate in some form of a selection process.
The most common selection process includes a counselling-based selection process, wherein the respective conducting body will release merit lists containing the names of all candidates along with their respective marks and ranks obtained in the entrance exam.
Once the necessary merit lists have been released, each candidate will be asked to appear for the counselling rounds conducted by the competent authority on the stipulated date and time.
Here, each candidate will be called as per their ranks in the merit lists and be asked to select the course and college as per their choice and interests. This will be common in situations where there are numerous participating institutes offering the same course with limited seats.
On the basis of the choices made by the candidate, their respective ranks and scores as per the merit lists and the availability of seats in the individual choices, the relevant competent authority will offer provisional admissions to the courses.
Note: It shall be noted that the competent authority may conduct several rounds of counselling to fill out the vacant seats in different courses. As per the guidelines outlined by each competent authority, candidates will be able to participate in the counselling rounds if they wish to.
